"The grounds surrounding Horticultural hall also seemed to be a sort of exhibit. Scattered throughout the grounds were rustic furniture and fences. There were also exhibits such as the "Flowers in Bloom" display. Twenty five acres of land surrounded the hall, and were designed to be an ornamental garden by C.H. Miller. Although not easily recognized in photographs, the written descriptions of the grounds portrayed a variety of beautiful native and foreign flowers, trees, and plants. A large sunken garden was designed on the western side of Horticultural Hall and was described by McCabe as "bright with flowers of a thousand different hues and sparkles with handsome fountains." However the best and most illustrious description reads, "The flowers of England, France, Germany, and the tropics grow side by side with these of our own country in the beautiful garden, in the middle of which the grand conservatory stands like a central jewel in the midst of a thousand gems of various hues." Obviously the grounds were breath-takingly exquisite. This quote also offers a harmonious picture of all the world's countries creating this beauty."    (Attribution: http://www3.villanova.edu/centennial/mco1.htm)
